I was in Germany again last week. Here are the Deutsche Post issues for September 2013.

200 Years of The Card Game “Skat”

According to the Deutsche Post web site, Skat originated in the German town of Altenburg. Its existence was first recorded 200 years ago, and it is the country’s most popular card game. Google Translate says that “Skat” is German for “Bingo”. Eyes down.

175 Years of the Steam Locomotive “Saxonia”

The Saxonia is, according to the Deutsche Post web site, the result of industrial espionage against the British monopoly of heavy industry. This locomotive is effectively a copy of the British locomotive Comet, and it helped launch the railway industry in Germany.

This stamp is a charity stamp, with proceeds going to the Foundation of Philately and Postal History in Germany.

Heidelberg Panorama

Heidelberg is a city in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwest Germany. This pair of se-tenant stamps features the Old Bridge across the river Neckar, with Heidelberg Castle and the Church of the Holy Spirit in the background.
