Cover: Croatia’s Accession to the European Union

This cover features a miniature souvenir sheet containing a single stamp commemorating Croatia’s accession to the European Union on 1st July 2013.

The souvenir sheet depicts a map of Europe overlaid with the 12 stars of the flag of the European Union. The stamp itself highlights Croatia beneath the star in the “4 o’clock” position. If you look closely, the design also differentiates between those countries that are in the EU, and those that are not.

Croatia's Accession to the European Union - CR 2013

Country: Croatia
Date: 22nd July 2013

Croatia is the 28th member of the European Union. This event is a milestone for Croatia, which declared independence from Yugoslavia in 1991 and endured years of bloody war in the region.

The progress of Croatia’s accession is documented here on Wikipedia.

More about the flag of the European Union: the 12 stars “symbolise the ideals of unity, solidarity and harmony among the peoples of Europe.” (From the EU website, you can read more here.)

Thanks to Josip for this cover, and welcome to the EU!
